Designed to instill participants with the fundamental expertise necessary for swiftwater canyoning rescue team operations, this comprehensive program is meticulously crafted to equip individuals with essential skills and knowledge.

Course takes place from 0830 – 1600 each day.

Course Highlights

Tailored Curriculum: Delve into a curriculum finely tuned to address the specific demands of swiftwater canyoning rescue operations. With a student-to-instructor ratio of 8:2, expect personalized attention and focused instruction throughout the course.

Technical Rigging and Rope Systems: Master the intricacies of technical rigging and rope systems, vital components in navigating swiftwater canyon environments. Learn to construct and deploy rope systems with precision and efficiency.

Improvised Rescue Techniques: Acquire proficiency in improvised rescue techniques, indispensable for responding effectively to emergencies in dynamic canyon settings. Develop the ability to think on your feet and adapt to challenging rescue scenarios.

Pacific Northwest Canyon Exploration: Immerse yourself in some of the Pacific Northwest’s most breathtaking canyon environments. From cascading waterfalls to rugged gorges, experience the awe-inspiring beauty of North Bend, Washington, and its surrounding areas.

Required Equipment

• Full body wetsuit (available for rent or purchase )
• Appropriate canyon footwear (canyon boots, SWR boots, approach shoes, light hiking boots)
• Helmet rated for mountaineering use
• Canyon Harness (horizontal attachment point) – available for borrow or purchase from Elevated Safety Gear Shop
• SWR whistle (Fox40)
• Knife (SWR knife)

Required Skills

• Physical Preparedness: Ready yourself for five days of eight-hour movement in demanding canyon environments.
• Swiftwater Familiarity: Possess a strong foundation and comfort level in swiftwater environments.
• Rope Rescue Proficiency: Demonstrate competency in rope rescue systems, including mechanical advantages of 3:1 and 5:1, as well as on-the-rope movement, ascent, and descent techniques.
