Advanced Artificial High Directionals
Course Overview
This course will build on your existing skills by applying them to the world of artificial high directionals. Through lecture and rigging scenarios, students will better understand the forces within high directional systems using monopods, bipods and tripods in multiple scenarios. We will also cover improvised AHDs and delve into lightweight AHD options. This course will be conducted in indoor and wilderness settings.
Course takes place from 0800 – 1700 each day.
Florida Residents:ย This is a Florida Division of State Fire Marshal (FireTRAQ) registered/approved course. The course has been approved, and is tracked, by the Florida Bureau of Fire Standards and Training (BFST), with completion records uploaded to the FireTRAQ database for certification purposes.

Course Includes
Use of Artificial High Directionals (tripods, monopods and bipods)
Highlines and deviations
Winches versus mechanical advantage systems
Load sharing anchors options and litter packaging/movement
Prerequisites
Proficiency at tying common knots used in rope rescue
Proficiency at modern rope rescue techniques
Ability to move up or down a rope in a safe manner
Ability to assess risk in a vertical environment and act to mitigate those risks
Comfort with exposure
What to Bring
Appropriate clothing for the weather conditions
Helmet
Class III full body harness or UIAA seat harness
Appropriate footwear (e.g. approach shoes) for accessing training sites
Rope gloves
Small backpack
Eye protection
Personal descender
6 locking carabiners
Rope ascending system (optional)
Rope grab (mechanical or prusik)
Target Audience
Paid and non-paid professional rope rescuers, mountain rescuers, search and rescue personnel, climbing guides or anyone who might respond for the rescue of a stranded/injured climber or worker.

Customer Cancellation, Refund & Course Transfer Policy
Elevated Safety understands that work schedules, emergency response assignments, shift coverage, illness, and other unexpected circumstances can affect a student's ability to attend a scheduled course. Our cancellation and transfer policy is intended to provide reasonable flexibility while protecting course availability and instructor commitments.
All cancellation and course transfer requests must be submitted in writing to Elevated Safety to Kallie.hunt@harken.com.
Cancellations
Registrations canceled 15 or more calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 100% refund.
Registrations canceled 8-14 calendar days before the course start date are eligible for a 50% refund.
Registrations canceled 7 or fewer calendar days before the course start date are non-refundable.
Course Transfers
Instead of canceling, students may transfer their registration to another comparable, available Elevated Safety course as follows:
- 15 or more calendar days before the course: No course-change fee.
- 8-14 calendar days before the course: $100 course-change fee.
- 7 or fewer calendar days before the course: $200 course-change fee.
Course transfers are subject to availability and must be requested before the original course begins.
Each registration may be transferred one time and must be used within 12 months of the original course start date.
Once a registration has been transferred, the registration becomes non-refundable and may not be transferred again.
Student Substitutions
Organizations may substitute another qualified student for the originally registered student at no charge, provided Elevated Safety is notified before the course begins and the replacement student meets all applicable course prerequisites.
No-Shows
Students who fail to attend a course without notifying Elevated Safety before the course begins are not eligible for a refund, credit, or course transfer.
